Barrie and I are lucky enough to live in the Forest of Dean, a mysterious area, full of weird and wonderful customs, a dialect of its own and the most wonderful scenery. The Welsh border is just 1.5 miles away and therefore, we feel part of both countries – particularly when Wales is doing well at the rugby!
We converted the coach house in the grounds of our Grade II listed house in the lovely village of Newland for self catering accommodation in 2000, and since that time, we have had many guests who have come and shared all of this with us. Many have returned time and time again.
The purpose of this blog is to let you know what you can enjoy during your stay, through letting you in on our experiences. The emphasis may well be on physical pursuits, particularly walking, and also food, which is a passion (hence the need for the physical pursuits). However, there is a great programme of local events, some mainstream and some more quirky, and hopefully, we can give you a flavour of what you can expect.
You can also keep up to date by looking at the website of Wye Valley and Forest of Dean Tourism Association – www.wyedeantourism.co.uk, an organisation which takes up a lot of my time but I hope that you will think that it is worth the effort.
So here goes ……………
